SHFCA2023 Hydrogen Scotland – Realising the Potential conference and exhibition take place on Thursday 26 October at the prestigious P&J Live venue in Aberdeen. Pre-conference activities begin on Wednesday 25 October with the Aberdeen Hydrogen Showcase at the OGV Taproom followed by the Wednesday evening civic reception and Awards ceremony with networking dinner at the Aberdeen Art Gallery.

SHFCA2023 Hydrogen Scotland opens with the Aberdeen Hydrogen Showcase on Wednesday 25 October from 12:30-17:45 at the OGV Taproom. Aberdeen Showcase speakers will give examples of local hydrogen activities in three sessions on themes of Aberdeen experience and lessons learned; Growing local capacity - current activities; and Opportunities - what’s coming next. This Showcase event and the Weds evening civic reception and dinner are all included with the SHFCA2023 Hydrogen Scotland tickets.

South of Scotland Enterprise are holding an in person Hydrogen Brokerage Event and Workshop on Tuesday 10th October, run in partnership with the Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association. The focus will be on how we collectively can drive the hydrogen economy forward for the benefit of the South of Scotland and develop the two regional hydrogen hubs designated by the Scottish Government in the Hydrogen Action Plan.

ETZ Ltd, in partnership SHFCA, are hosting this masterclass to look at green hydrogen and hydrogen end use applications. The North East Scotland supply chain is invited to join us to hear about the major hydrogen developments in Scotland and the UK. We will discuss the commercial and regulatory challenges required to be overcome to deliver these projects as well as supply chain opportunities in the short, medium and long term. There will also be an opportunity for one-to-one discussions with speakers during the event.

Scottish Enterprise and SHFCA are partnering to deliver a full day Hydrogen Brokerage event at the MSIP Parc in Broughty Ferry, Dundee.

This free to attend event at Dundee will focus on the early demand applications for hydrogen across transport, stationary power, and heat. The agenda includes presentations from live Hydrogen projects in Scotland, time for networking, focused table discussions, and opportunities to book 1:1 sessions with some of the key players in Hydrogen in Scotland.

South of Scotland Enterprise and SHFCA are partnering to bring the South of Scotland Hydrogen Workshop & Brokerage event to Dumfries. This includes the hydrogen workshop and brokerage sessions on Thursday 30th June, with a networking event in Dumfries on the evening of Wednesday 29th June. This webinar on Hydrogen Bridges across the North Sea Region explores how North Sea Ports will act as hydrogen bridges. Through their proximity to renewable energy and potential in the production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, ports will fulfil a key role in the energy transition to hydrogen across the North Sea Region. Speakers include Jan Egbertsen from the Port of Amsterdam, Joanne Allday from the Port of Cromarty Firth, and Paul Turner of CMB TECH. There is increasing pressure on all forms of transport to fully decarbonise as part of delivering Net Zero, and aviation has some significant challenges for replacement of jet-fuel kerosene. Join CeeD and SHFCA members to explore alternative low carbon propulsion technologies for aviation using hydrogen fuel cells and onboard hydrogen gas storage. This presents significant opportunities for innovation with engineering, manufacturing, and new services.

Our next SHFCA event on Wednesday 24 March will be a joint Hydrogen Fleet & Logistics Opportunities webinar organised by SHFCA and supported by Gillespie Macandrew. The recent progress with hydrogen vehicle fleets now offers significant opportunities for businesses across Scotland. Local production of green hydrogen and vehicle refuelling solutions can support the wider deployment of zero emission logistics fleets.

The first in a series of SHFCA H2 Safety Forum ‘Lunch & Learn’ webinars takes place on Monday 7th December from 12:30 – 13:30 GMT. Dr Stuart Hawksworth, President of HySafe and Chair of the SHFCA H2 Safety Forum will introduce the first in this series of H2 Safety Forum webinars to share information and best practice with hydrogen safety. This webinar is free to attend but places are limited and prior registration for this webinar is essential.

This webinar event, hosted by Anderson Strathern, will provide an update on Scotland’s ambitions, backed up by progress in key areas. It will show the potential for hydrogen at scale to support the delivery of policy targets, highlighting areas of key strengths for Scotland. Participants will also hear about the need to build wider partnerships for hydrogen production and supply in order to achieve key milestones on the pathway to Net Zero by 2045.

This webinar will bring together practical experience from the Aberdeen hydrogen bus project and lessons learned during HyTrEc and HyTrEc2 (Hydrogen Transport Economy for the North Sea) projects. How can public and private actors help create the conditions for hydrogen to be viable for vehicle suppliers, infrastructure providers and end users? What can we learn from recent trials and deployments? The event is chaired by Fergus Worthy of Cenex and includes presentations from Nigel Holmes of SHFCA, Andrew Win of Aberdeen City Council, and Nick McCarthy of Cenex.

This on-line event will highlight the achievements of the wonderful Stewart Dow, who helped many early fuel cell start-ups in the UK to become established and viable businesses. Join us for a collection of reminiscences from colleagues and friends who were involved with Stewart and his hydrogen and fuel cell commercialisation and innovation activities. This on-line event has been jointly organised by Hydrogen London, the Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association, and the UK Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association. We are also grateful to the Arcola Theatre in London for providing the virtual backdrop for this on-line tribute.

Our third SHFCA member meeting of 2020 will be a ‘Breakfast Briefing’ event on the topic of Cleaner City Mobility for Net Zero. This meeting is hosted by Gillespie Macandrew and will provide updates on work being carried out in Scottish Cities to develop effective policies and implement the practical changes to reduce the transport emissions in Scotland which have adverse effects on both the global climate and also local air quality. This joint SCCS-SHFCA workshop on Sustainable Investment for Net Zero with Hydrogen & CCS is about the potential timing and scale of investment needed to progress large scale hydrogen and CCS projects in Scotland which can support delivery of the key Net Zero targets. It will also consider potential growth of market demand for clean hydrogen as well as the connecting infrastructure which will be needed for transport of both H2 and CO2.

The Safety Briefing will cover hydrogen safety in emerging applications for buildings, infrastructure, and transport. It will also will focus on the importance of project safety planning and project safety governance as an integral part of project delivery.

Our first SHFCA event of 2020 is for members only, and will help shape priorities and develop the activities of our growing Association. The morning session will update you on SHFCA finances, governance and structure. There will also be an opportunity for you to provide input and comment about SHFCA priorities, and how we can best meet the needs of all members as the hydrogen & fuel cell sector continues to grow and develop.

This free to attend Hydrogen - Measure to Manage Workshop is being delivered in partnership with SHFCA member TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory. 

It will help inform stakeholders from industry, public sector, trade bodies, and academia about current and future measurement requirements for hydrogen. The speakers will explain the need for standardisation in one or more aspects of our growing industry, and the afternoon includes roundtable workshops to identify the key challenges and potential solution mechanisms.

The recent Scottish Government Energy Strategy ‘The Future of Energy in Scotland’ has identified the importance of using a whole energy system approach to support delivery of ambitious targets for energy efficiency, increased renewable energy uptake, and carbon reduction.

The programme presents progress being made both by academia and industry to support these key policy ambitions, with topics ranging from hydrogen storage at large scale to innovative conversions using hydrogen as decarbonised energy and as a feedstock.

This joint meeting has been organised by SHFCA and the Energy Technology Partnership with sessions featuring leading speakers who will stimulate discussion and debate.

Our 2018 Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Conference takes place in Dundee, one of Scotland’s most vibrant cities. This one day conference will showcase hydrogen and fuel cell applications and their deployment as efficient and integrated low emission energy systems.
