SHFCA Hydrogen Safety Briefing

The Hydrogen Safety Briefing takes place on Wednesday 22nd January from 13:30 to 15:45 at the ECCI in Edinburgh. Please note that the members-only SHFCA AGM takes place at the same venue in the morning, and separate registration is required for these two events. The Safety Briefing will cover hydrogen safety in emerging applications for buildings, infrastructure, and transport. It will also will focus on the importance of project safety planning and project safety governance as an integral part of project delivery.

Andy Cummings, DNV-GL. Hydrogen test facilities at Spadeadam

This update will cover the extensive large scale hydrogen test facilities at the DNV-GL Spadeadam site just outside Carlisle, and include the demonstration houses to evaluate hydrogen supply into buildings as well as the planned hydrogen pipeline test area.

George Davidson, Transport Scotland. Hydrogen Trains

This presentation will set out plans to evaluate conversion of existing electric powered rolling stock to hydrogen fuel cell. Safety aspects which will need to be considered include location of the high pressure hydrogen cylinders, train operation, and train refuelling.

Ed Macfarlane, Abbott Risk Consulting. Project safety planning

There is increasing focus from project funders on the importance of including safety plans as part of project proposals. This update will set out some of the approaches which can be used to develop improved project safety including the whole system safety approach

Phil Brain, Kiwa Gastec. Project safety governance

This update will outline approaches which can help to improve project safety through the use of suitable governance structures throughout the project lifecycle including inception, design, installation, commissioning, operation, and decommissioning stages.

 The presentations will be between 15 and 20 minutes each, with 5-10 minutes scheduled after each presentation for Q&A and discussion.
