The Scotland-Germany Hydrogen Backbone Link (HBL) project focuses on the critical hydrogen transport infrastructure required to deliver a cost-effective pipeline connecting to Germany which could enable Scotland to meet up to 10% of Europe’s projected hydrogen import demand by the mid 2030s.
Scotland has vast onshore and offshore renewable resources, and the ambition to become a net exporter of green energy by 2045. The Scottish government funded Hydrogen Backbone Link (HBL) project has designed a new 10 GW hydrogen pipeline across the North Sea to provide cost-effective transportation to market for Scottish hydrogen and supporting the transition to a low-carbon energy system.
Speaker line-up and topics:
> Dr Alexandra Stein, Scottish Government - Scotland-Germany partnership opportunities
> Nigel Holmes, Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association - Hydrogen production across Scotland
> Martyn Tulloch, net Zero Technology Centre - Scotland-Germany Hydrogen Backbone Link Pipeline
The HBL project positions Scotland as a viable supplier of renewable hydrogen into mainland Europe, catering to the increasing industrial demand for hydrogen and supporting regional decarbonisation goals.
