European Policy Solutions, with the support of E4tech, is holding a Workshop on Hydrogen Trains in Edinburgh on Tuesday 22nd May 2018. This comes at a time when the rail electrification programme in the UK has been cut back and there is growing interest in hydrogen trains as an alternative to rail electrification.
This one day Workshop looks at the growing interest in hydrogen trains in Scotland and the United Kingdom. It looks at developments in the rest of Europe such as the introduction of hydrogen trains in Lower Saxony with three more Lander taking trains by 2022. Austria’s Zillertal Railway has also recently announced that it is opting for hydrogen trains on its narrow gauge railway. There are also plans for hydrogen trains in the Netherlands, Austria and Toronto and this will be in addition to the roll out of hydrogen trains in Germany.
Speakers and panellists include: Mark Griffin (BOC);Mike Muldoon (Alstom UK); Oben Uluc (Ballard Power Systems); Mark Kammerer (Hydrogenics); David Hart (E4Tech); Michiel Deerenberg (ProRail, Netherlands); and Bill Ireland (Logan Energy).
The programme includes case studies and considers the technical and other challenges posed by hydrogen trains. The Workshop will end with a Panel Discussion which looks at the way in which the UK can move from trials to implementation, especially how it can be introduced into a rail system built around franchises.
