Scottish government funded renewable hydrogen & fuel cell support scheme projects - outcomes and outlooks
THIS EVENT IS FREE FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS. WE WELCOME ALL-COMERS, MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS.
The Scottish Government ran a £1.5 million Scottish Renewable Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Support Scheme. The support scheme ran from August 2007 until April 2008.
The objectives of the scheme where to:
- Increase the use of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Scotland in order to promote a diverse supply
- To promote and develop off-grid generation from intermittent renewables
- To maximise economic benefits
- To increase carbon savings.
The scheme is currently being evaluated with the results expected within the next couple of months, following which an assessment of what further support is required will be made. Further action on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells is set out in the Scottish Government Renewable Action Plan, which was published in June 2009. The action plan includes a specific route map for the sector and recognises the cross-cutting benefits which the green hydrogen/fuel cell sectors can bring, including solutions for energy storage, energy security in remoter areas and low carbon transport. In promoting these solutions, the action plan aims to maximise the contribution of the green hydrogen/fuel cells sectors to the achievement of 20% of renewable energy in Scotland by 2020.
