North Rhine Westphalia Fuel Cells & Hydrogen Nework, 9th Annual Conference

posted on Dec 14, 2009

I was invited last week to give a presentation at the 9th Annual Conference of the North Rhine Westphalia Fuel Cells & Hydrogen Network in Dusseldorf on H&FC developments in Scotland and the UK.  NRW is the most advanced region in the world in H&FC work.  Members of SHFCA can access the papers presented by sending me an email for the link.

The year 2009 was shaped mainly by the discussion about electric mobility – respectively the question what exactly is electric mobility. The role of hydrogen as a future fuel was debated controversially. Meanwhile the opinion prevailed that electric mobility covers both: battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCEV). Due to many similarities BEV and FCEV will complement each other perfectly and cover different demands for mobile applications. The spectrum of activities of the network has widened accordingly.

Against the background of these developments the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Network NRW invited for the ninth time to its annual meeting in Dusseldorf. This year's program reflected the developments outlined above and raised the issue of electric mobility giving examples of national and international activities and projects.
